Encrypted ZIP Files

CHADIS sends reports containing sensitive information in encrypted ZIP files. These files need to be opened using a program that understands the AES encryption algorithm.

Here is a list of popular software that will not properly read these archives:

  • Microsoft Windows XP/Vista/7 Explorer's "Compressed Folders" (the standard ZIP archive reader)

  • Mac OS X BOMArchiveHelper.app (the standard ZIP archive reader)

Here is a list of popular software that will properly read these archives:

  • PeaZip Portable is "portable" and free archive reader for Microsoft Windows that does not require installation.

  • WinZip is an archive reader for Microsoft Windows
  • The Unarchiver is a free archive reader for Mac OS X

  • 7zip is available for many platforms

There are many other ZIP-file programs available that can read password-protected ZIP files. A list of archive readers is availble on Wikipedia: just look for one that supports "encryption" without saying "weak".

Please use one of the above programs to read the encrypted reports that we send. If you need help installing or using one of these programs, please email us at support@chadis.com or call us at 1-888-4-CHADIS (1-888-424-2347).
